You are not mine
Yet you are part of me
You sense my suffering
I feel your pain within myself
You hold my mind in deepest intimacy
I hear your voice
But my heart fears we shall never touch
Eyes never light one upon the other
Fingers never meet
Nor arms embrace
We who share so much
Have known so much
And yet so little of each other’s lives
Must stand content to rest with empty space
Only part knowing
Never fully experienced
Maybe never seen nor touched
Together yet eternally apart
You are not mine
And joy brings sufficient unto the day
Of final meeting
