Hidden in my desk
In a bottom drawer
I found a small satchel -
The remnants of a love no more

I found a packet of letters
From a love gone past
Words that lost their meaning
From a love that didn't last

From a day that it seemed
You were why the sun rose
These letters now
only convey sorrows

Each letter professed love
Graciously accepted
And returned in Kind
In letters lovingly worded

Loving words have been replaced
By memories of a love gone away
A love that is no more
That could not survive to this day

I have found comfort
Where love once filled my heart
From the joyous memories
Of days before we were forever apart.

desk drawer

I think your first two stanzas are your strongest--the parts about your desk drawer and satchel of letters. I found it to be more substantial, something to sink my teeth into.

Love Letters

A simple poem of letters and lost love.

The words are basic as is the feeling.

The poem weakens when the rhythm of the meter stumbles.
