her footsteps faded long before
the stale smell of cigarettes
and the tepid sweet scent of sweat
ruffled sheets the only memory
a slow turning fan exhausts the rest
another yesterday in the making
a weekly rental
filled on a daily basis
with tomorrows that never last
love the mortgage
lust the landlord
and life, the currency
over extended by week's end
another love bankrupted
but my credit's still good
