When you were born
I felt a rainbow
leap out, color the sky.
Just a baby
yet you were already
a person, my baby sister.

As you grew
I longed to be
your very best friend.
To hang out
play games
Make sense of what you said.

And then one day
we could talk.
Not much.
Just jibberish.
But to you it must have meant
quite a bit.

Now you're older
and you make more sense
though I miss the times
that you jestered with hands
fingers and eyes
barely did and mostly didn't.
