No Turning Back

High upon a mountain
I suddenly appeared
A new life lay before me
With nothing that I feared
Beneath the soaring eagles
Horizons that they told
For they could see my future path
Impossible to behold

Born with youthful innocence
Impetuous and pure
I raced down from the mountain
Deliberate and sure
Adventures lay before me
And filled with wonders new
Eager to experience
This ever changing hue

Flowing down my valley
With banks of rolling hills
The beauty of discovery
Within my living gills
Playfully and wistfully
The life upon my bed
A yearning for to linger there
But life moved on instead

Once I met a silver sole
Emerged from future’s stream
She told me that ahead of me
Lay no idyllic dream
And as I looked behind me
I saw her dressed in black
Swimming into history
There is no turning back,
There is no turning back…

Suddenly without forewarn
My current slowing down
Sedately and with wisdom
As I begin to drown
The rape of other’s effluent
Cast upon my shore
As I am forced to burden
And treated like a whore

Offering my body
For all who can enjoy
Using and abusing
A sewer and a toy
Reminded of the silver sole
Who warned me of my doom
Her words were filled with wisdom
My time is coming soon

Finally I reach my fate
And lie down by her side
With outstretched withered fingers
She takes me for her bride
Suffocating volume
Extracts my final breath
With open soul devouring whole
She leads me to my death

She knows that I have reached her
That I am feeling old
To join with all her children
And deposit all my gold
Time to leave behind me now
All things that I have earned
For within her deepest secret
Hides all that we have learned

Then, within the wild,
Rugged tempest of her form
I turned into a teardrop
And joined a growing storm
The winds that bore me landward
Above the eagles’ throne
Caressed their golden wing tips
They’ve come to take me home,
They’ve come to take me home…
