I feel him approaching!
Kids are back at school.
Networks primier this year's bilge.
Night nibbles more of the day.

He's getting closer!
One club's clinched the pennant.
Candy corn is in Walmart.
The first yellow leaves flutter down.

Soon now, very soon!
My long gone friend, October,
Returns at last
To lay a cool hand on my sunburned shoulder
But to set the trees ablaze.
