ON GRAND

As I was walking along Grand
I passed a person, caught glancing back at me
For only a moment.

Long enough to see her eyes
As they settled in insecurity
On the lines of my face – as mine did her’s.

And I noticed how they’d deepened.
And I wondered who she was.

On Grand I glimpsed a person
That I’d known for twenty years
Yet passed her by in silence.
As time makes acquaintances of souls forever bound.

As I made my way down Grand
I walked through the shadow
Of a woman growing older

A woman not so certain
A woman with eyes uneasy

The eyes of my echo

In my reflection in the window
Of a shop I passed on Grand.
