Pearl Diver

I set out today
In search of a vessel
That contains a baroque pearl
Diving into the waters
I make my descent
To the ocean floor

Just beyond a mound of entangled kelp
Between two coral reefs
I discover the location
Ah, there she rests

A velvet oyster
Unveiling the rococo globe within
A soft, seductive sphere
Enveloped by a crescent hood

I venture forth to caress the prize
And the oyster stirs in response
I dare to stroke again
And the oyster clamors in response

I shine the pearl
And it shakes violently
As though a prince had
Stolen a princess from her
Imprisoned keep

I resurface with a satiety smile
Clutching my satchel and prodding staff
I bask in the sun fantasizing
About the deep again
In search for the elusive pearl.
