The foliage doubles in the water -
green air, green leaves, green light,
green surface and the first few
yellow absconders floating -
there is grass in the gravel and the beds
of flowers, not weeded, those pale
to grey reminders, relics
of this summer, unheeded. Ere long
the rains will go for the glad-
hearted young couples; the wind
will play dancing-classes in the dry
fallen glory. No longer will
the light be green on the well-known
worn path. It will be white,
and coldly forbidding, and old.
