What will it take,

For you to see the truth of us?

Will it seep into your heart,

Or will it strike you like a bus?

You can pretend,

Perhaps another 20 years.

I can't look back,

I'll fly the way my pilot steers.

Red headed boys,

They greet me in the morning light.

Sit on your lap?

A few more years of pure delight.

A wife who knows

She's never been my one and all.

She's made her peace,

She bides her time 'til curtain call.

A folded card,

A photograph, a mail account.

Small bits of you,

You're a liturgy,

Not the sermon on the mount.
