A melody like a sprinkle of light
and a shower of platinum pebbles
on a milky white marble floor
in a tempo of it's own
boldly fluttering design
and a theme so clear
yet so distant it could
ring true to all ears
If you try
you may still recall
that it did
somehow
ring true even for us
That was all I had
My Music
But it changed a key
and stumbled on a note
and will never be the same
But remember...
A note
ringing higher than the sun
and louder than that
soothing pumping thumping
of a heart
when there is no other sound
to holler it into oblivion
A song so bright
so small and simple
it could not possibly stray
into the darker more bitter
harmonic limping
of a minor key
That was my Music
Remember it
try to recall and replay it
like it sung
that one split second
before my heart burst
and the tears welled in
then maybe
perhaps
in the shadow of a chance
you could see where I came from
and what you made me
the second
when that dissonant note
that off-key shriek
that tone of chaos
you gave me
was stuck across the carefully
carved lines and staffs of my
original ethereal design
and my Music was changed
contaminated
never to harmonize
so clean and pure
with the walls of my
inner auditorium
ever again
The Music will never stop
but the way it played
before I learned
just how painfully
hard a wrong chord could hit me
is forever gone
when I sing
the last chorus
of an innocence that
everyone but me
knew could not be forever
Because the world is the noise
to every child's signal
and one day the dissonance
will come
to each and everyone
tearing it all apart
and changing the Music
to the jaded key of the
grey cold world that
indeed has a harmony
and a beauty
but of a different kind
So remember the Music
as it once played
but don't forget
to strike a new note
and practice on my already
ruined sprinkle of light
I give you what is left
of my Music
for you to hear
and understand
until you finally
find a melody that rings true
and our Music
will soar again
