I.
There is a certain
hesitation, as she
parts her legs and
rests her hands on
that fertile swell of
belly above dark curls
and slippery pink flesh.
II.
Release is an honest dance
of shaking thighs and
grasping hands that are strong enough
to bend the frame and
weave wood-groan with woman's screams
until she gasps
and falls back in sudden silence.
III.
In the sweat and shivering that follows
the way is clear to her open arms
and when she folds him to her breast,
she smiles.

JamesCiriacoalmost 15 years agoI love the rhythm of this piece. It coheres as a whole, but each stanza takes us through the distinct pace and mood of that moment-- the mounting tension, the climax, and calm afterwards. A lot of free verse seems more or less random in its structure, but you've taken care with this.
