Driving to work
a snowy morning
to your door
no warning,
Ring the bell
wait awhile
and there you are
wearing a towel,

Your hair is wet
you look bemused
but let me in
light the fuse,
On the stick
of dynamite
that I carry
day and night,

Coffee you say
is on the stove
you drop the towel
get a robe,
Tie it loosely
but not tight
your feet are bare
your toes are bright,

Bright red
like my car
that took us once
very far,
All the way
to the coast
married in Vegas
almost,

Drink our coffee
you ask why
I came to visit
a familiar sigh,
You know the reason
you know my need
where visits like this
always lead,

You let the robe
slip away
let me again
have my way,
That stick of dynamite
you lit
makes a perfect
morning fit,

By ten o’clock
we’re dressed, begin
Tuesday morning
once again,
I drop you at
the train depot
and drive to work
through melting snow,
