Once their hands would wind,
around my fingers ever so small,
learning all they needed to know,
with legos and Disney movies,
baby dolls and hotwheel cars.
macaroni and cheese smiles,
and loud squeals of delight!

Then they got a bit older,
and held their hand in mine,
learning all they needed to know,
with days at elementary school,
with new friends and faces,
report cards and recess,
silly games and scary faces,
and loud squeals of delight!

Now they are already teenagers,
and hold my hand firmly in theirs,
learning what they need to know,
with curious and questioning looks,
with close friends and secrets,
challenging sports and reports,
crazy thoughts and opinions,
but still with squeals of delight
