Thank You Lord for this Blessing

On the day you found out he was coming, you said
“Thank You Lord for this blessing.”
A life was created
On the day you felt him move, you said
“Thank You Lord for this blessing.”
A life was growing
On the day you first held him in your arms, you said.
“Thank You Lord for this blessing.”
A life began

On the day you heard him whisper the word “Mama”, you said
“Thank You Lord for this blessing.”
A life was learning
On the day he took his first steps, you said
“Thank You Lord for this blessing.”
A life was taking the first steps on its journey
On the day you watched him walking up to school, you said
“Thank You Lord for this blessing.”
A life was becoming independent
On the day he cried over his first crush, you said
“Thank You Lord for this blessing.”
A life was growing up
On the day he borrowed the car, you said
“Thank You Lord for this blessing.”
A life was grown up

On the day he graduated high school, you said
“Thank You Lord for this blessing.”
A life had become a man
A spark, an infant, a child, a teen, a man
You still wanted to take his hand, afraid to let him walk on his own
You wanted to prevent him from falling
To you still a child in need of your loving care
To him a man, comforted by knowing that you’ll always be there.
Your heart burst with pride as you watched him go his own way, you said
“Thank You Lord for this blessing.”

Like the fragile spring flowers that succumb to the lingering frost, you said
“Lord take care of my boy”
A life ended.

An angel takes flight, you say
“Thank You Lord for this blessing.”
