There was no reply
of course,
I did not really expect one;
what I expected was that slight linger
that arrives with silence
and then
quick as a field pheasant
flutters away.
A little piece of me
fluttered away
and then thumped its way back
in triumph,
in defeat
-it felt one and the same.
