I had a gift
so I wrapped it up
into information
they could understand.
I gave freely
to prevent confusion
as I stood before them
with open hands.
I asked for politeness
and a small donation
if one could afford
to spread the word.
Their pockets bulged
with tucked in fingers
pulled out empty;
the aid was meager.
Still I carried on
with heavy shoulders
convinced I’d found
what was meant to be.
But now I shudder
as they call me names
and scream for more,
for my gift was free.

Lebroz got it half-right

It's to bulging wallets with soulless faces!

Offering your soul

With words well spoken

To vacant faces.
