I see it coming and the very sight of it causes my heart to stop beating. The train.

Ahead, in the distance, it slowly materializes and creeps ever closer. My life has, for the
most part, been an existence that one could only liken to traveling in an underground
subway. Oh, there were glimpses of light, now and then, brief glittering rays shone down
to illuminate the darkness, as if passing under skylights.

For the most part, life has been a journey through the mist and the veil of emptiness.
Shadows dominate the days, they chase the light away and hold it at bay. Hurtling into
time, lost in darkness and silence, I groped my way through life, unaware that there was
more to be had.

Clickity , clackity, click, went the wheels of time as they gyrated me madly through day
after day of tedious doldrum. The dull rythm made by the sounds of the wheels flying
down the tracks was in itself, enough to drive a man insane.

My train took a brief sidetrack, though. Thankfully. You came into my life and the
journey changed. Time no longer stood still. There was freshness in the once rancid air.
There was light that chased away the gloom. Joyous sounds filled the air and I soon
realized the emminated from my very soul.

Music lilted up to the heavens from my spirit. I basked in the warmth of the sunshine. I
warmed myself by the glow of your soul. I breathed in the fragerence of life and felt
happiness oozing through my heart. Each day lay before me as a wonderous adventure,
each night beckoned to me as a magical dance of love taking in body, mind and soul.

The train stopped and I got off of it to wander aimlessly through meadows dampned with
the morning dew and feel the coolness on my bare feet. In the cool morning air, my lungs
filled with delicious air and song broke out of my soul to float lazilly into the heavens.

On a bed of roses, I found joys untold, love unknown and the sweetness of completion. I
never noticed, I never bothered to look, I never dreamed, but I should have paid more
attention. The motor of the train never stopped, it idled in patient confidence, knowing
soon, it would gear up again, to take me onward, back into the fog.

I was so busy dancing in mountain streams, laughing in the rain and soaring above the
clouds to pay heed to the changes in you. I was too blind and oblivious, to see you taking
me back to the train. Tears glistening in your eyes, you lead me up the platform and
helped me board the train.

You waved goodbye and blew a gentle kiss. You stood and watched me go and then
turned to walk away. I watched you until you faded from sight, then turned with a sigh to
find my seat. Looking ahead through the windows, my stomach knotted into a ball and
creeping into my throat, I see the it coming. I see it coming and the very sight of it causes
my heart to stop beating. Ahead, in the distance, it slowly materializes and creeps ever
closer. Once again, I lose myself in the fog and the shadows overtake my soul.
