In the breaking dawn
She holds her head
above water for as long
as her fins permit.

For the view is unparalleled.
The animal of the boat
stares back with large eyes
while she partakes in his beauty.

She has no permission
not from her father nor the others
who tell the tales
of danger in high seas.

Yet she can tell
that he is no fisherman
no hooks nor nets around him
blinded by lust.

And then he waves
arms extended
as though to acknowledge
her presence and approve it.

And suddenly
like an untamed carp
she leapt into the air
with a big flip.

It was the wrong move.
Though he did seem to approve.
The apple of her eye
the first a net to cast.

Never trust a man. . .

especially a fisherman.

A novel twist,

the story told from the mermaid's eye,

or fish. The words are simple,

but because of the twist they seem to work.

Both with fish and lovers,

it is deadly if you hold on too long

or tight.

Practice catch and release.

Let them grow for tomorrow.
