I walk past a store window downtown
 and I see you standing across the street!

I turn around to find it isn't you-
 it's been 15 years since Gaea you did meet.

Saddened, I turn back toward my car and ask aloud
 "why couldn't it have been you this time?"

I know the answer is the same as before:
 you are gone- the vision was in my mind.

Eyes full of tears, I drive home,
 stopping at the liquor store on my way;

"I know this will only make it worse" I think,
 as I pick my poison and pay.

I sit down on my couch, kick off my shoes, cry,
 and drink from the bottle as I used to do.

Surely this is all a long twisted dream,
 I will wake up and again be next to you.

"It's not fair!" I scream at the gods.
 "why did you have to take her away?"

I stare at my empty bottle and cry;
 feeling things that I can't find words to say.

And as fade from my saddened stupor into dreams,
 I see you standing, hand shading sun from your eyes

I stare at you with childlike wonder,
 and know that I can never say goodbye.
