i walk into a room,
search you out,
and silently stand far away,
watching you be you.

i see the people come to you,
talking,
laughing,
sharing,
and then you look my way,
your eyes meet mine--
you smile.

the fluttering in my stomach
makes me feel like i'm sixteen again.
i try to act like i'm not staring at you,
not wanting to run up to you,
monopolize all your time,
but i'm certain my thoughts show on my face,
the trembling in my legs must be obvious.
i want to take you away from the crowd
to talk,
to laugh,
to share--
yet i can't.

then before i know it,
you're in front of me,
smiling that smile,
your eyes sparkling,
you're happy to see me.
and i'm so glad.
