"So tell me what you thought?" I asked,
To read my stuff a friend I'd tasked.
He looked at me and sort of laughed,
"It was good, I liked it."

"What did you think of so and so?
Please tell me, do. I want to know."
Again he smiles and then he goes,
"Dunno, I liked it."

Frustrated by his bland reply,
I want to know the reason why,
But he just looks me in the eye
And simply says, "I liked it."

I'm not afraid of critical,
I'd even accept cynical,
I ask again, all quizzical,
"But tell me why you liked it."

"I just don't know in lots of ways,
The characters, the interplay’s,"
Then he looks at me and again he says,
"It was okay, I liked it."

In fury now my fists I clench,
A comment from his throat I'll wrench,
I swear his blood the page will drench,
If he says once more he liked it.

He looks at me and starts to sweat,
The message now he starts to get,
His peril is not over yet,
But he still wants to say he liked it.

"It may not be counted art," he says,
"Your story works in many ways,
But what I find quite rare these days,
Is that I quite enjoyed it.

"If I were you the length I'd cut
And the plot line could be tidied up,
But the overall feeling in my gut,
Is that I really liked it."

At last an end I had to call
When you bang your head against a wall
The very best sensation of all
Is when you finally stop it.

And having stopped I realised
The truth had finally materialised.
The comment to be really prized
Was that my friend had liked it!
