Whispers

byAurora Black©

I sit alone in an empty room
No sounds there, no light
Except the faint noises of whispers
Keeping me awake throughout the night.

What's happening, I ask myself.
I have no clue, I reply.
Only the whispers know and they won't tell.
I smell the ever-growing stench of lies.

False stories and tall tales
Are all that I hear,
Some make me laugh, some bring a tear
To my eye. Why?

Because they're not true,
Because they came from anger and not fact
Gruesome fiction instead of calm reality
I tell myself, and that's that.

I know the whispers will fade away
With time, that I will wake up to see
Them as only bad dreams.
I will recover, I will be free.

In my lonely room I stand
I walk to the balcony
I see life going on, uninterrupted, unchanged
A new day, waiting for me.

My heart soars and fights
Against the whispers, hate and malicious spite
And I eventually defeat them
Before walking into the light.
