DQS is an excellent writer, but surely does prefer the reconcile ending, which can grate!

Good hook of an opening, whoosh she’s gone to Chicago and papers are served, what happens next? No stand up drag out fight, but he’s not a demonstrative dramatic man, so that wouldn’t fit (he appears in a South American bar gunfight, where he’s frosty under extreme pressure … another story in LW).

So Mary, a LOYAL wife of 35 years, has 1 incident of phone sex, then suddenly decides to walk away from her marriage, into a physical affair with another man after 3 more moneys, carrying it on for 6 more months, then decides she wants as fast of a clean break from her loyal husband?

This smells VERY bad of something VERY STINKY, and doesn't even pass the husband test quite right. THERE IS SOMETHING ELSE GOING ON.

On to chapter 2.....this has me curious....

Great story, so far. Because this is a series, I’m hopeful that Hugh recovers soon and eventually prospers. I’m also hoping that Mary eventually is betrayed in this life, and ultimately burns in hell. Five stars ⭐️ for this one.
