Jim was relieved. She was laughing again and that made him feel better.

"Then we can still be friends?" Jim asked. "How about going out Saturday night?"

Hildy nodded.

"Sure, I'd like that."

She opened the car door and stepped out into the parking lot.

"See you tomorrow," she said as she drew her car keys out of the pockets of her hot pants.

It was eleven-thirty and she was off, back to her parents' house in her purple Plymouth Duster. Jim wondered if her parents would ask her how her evening went.

Extremely well written and realistic

It sounds like something that could have happened just this way. You can feel for both of them here, even though she does seem more than a little strange in her reactions.

Agree, a good start to the story. An attraction to a young woman who is not a raving beauty and she obviously lacks confidence about herself and life in general. He used his brain and didn't let the little head take over, which was a great first step. Looking forward to the next chapter.
