Angie was horrified; she couldn't believe that Hailey hit that woman. She didn't know who she was, but she was great full for her trying to help her. Now the other woman was lying on the ground. Angie tried to get away but Hailey wouldn't let her. She smacked her across the face,

"I said you're going to dance with me, and you are. Now stop squirming!"

Max shook of the fuzziness and she heard Angie yelp. She got up, tapped Hailey on the shoulder, and punched her square in the nose. Hailey let go of Angie, grabber her nose and fell flat on her butt. Max took the opportunity to grab Angie and drag her over to the bar. When they reached the bar she made sure that Jen had called the police. She assured them she had and told them to get out of here.

"If the police need to get a hold of me, you know my number."

"Yeah, me too." said Angie as Max started pulling her out the door.

Once they got outside Angie was able to get a better look at her. Once she saw her face she gasped and stopped moving. Max turned and looked at her.

"Come on Angie, we have to get out of here before Hailey comes looking for us!"

Angie came out of her daze and took charge.

"Come on, we'll take my car. You could have a concussion so it's not good for you to drive."

She started walking again and pulled Max towards her car.

"We'll come back for your car later."

Max smiled at her, "I didn't drive a car. I drove my bike, the one you hit today."

Angie's mouth dropped. "Oh Max, I'm so sorry, I really didn't mean to hit your bike. I'm really sorry. Did you get my insurance info?"

"Yes, I got it. It's cool. Don't worry about it, insurance will take care of it."

Angie could tell that she was getting drowsy. She ushered her into the passenger side of the car. She shut the door and rushed over to the other side and got in. As she was pulling past the club she saw the police pulling up there. She turned to Max and poked her to get her attention.

"Hey, were do you live?"

Max gave her the address and Angie headed in that direction. Once they reached the apartment building, Angie parked and helped Max out of the car. She dug the keys out of Max's pocket, asked her what the apartment was and led her to the elevator. Once they got off on Max's floor, Angie led her to the apartment door, opened it up and led her to the couch.

"Sleep Max. I don't think you have a concussion, but I'll shake you every once and a while to make sure your ok." Max nodded her head and fell asleep.

Angie shut the door and looked around. It was a flat style apartment. Everything was pretty much in one giant room except the bedroom and the bathroom. The apartment was disgusting. There were clothes, pizza boxes, and take out cartons all over the place. Since Angie was going to be there for a while she decided to clean up a little bit. It didn't take her long to throw everything away, but it did take her a while to do the laundry. Max had so much dirty stuff on the floor, and every were else that it took her three hours to wash, dry, and fold the laundry while waking Max up to make sure she was ok. After she was done with the laundry and she finished cleaning the rest of the apartment, she fell asleep on the bed.

***

Max woke up with a pounding headache and an empty stomach. She opened her eyes and headed to the bathroom to get something to clam her headache. When she walked out of the bathroom the first thing she noticed was that her apartment was clean. She knew that she hadn't cleaned it. Then she remembered that Angie had brought her home. She looked around for her, but she didn't see her any were. She figured that she had already left. She still had the note with her number on it. She would just call her later and thank her for bringing her home and cleaning up the place.

Still kind of drowsy she went into the bedroom to change into some sweats when she stepped on something.

"Oh fuck, oh fuck, oh fuck! Oh that hurts!" she yelled.

All of a sudden someone shoots up from the bed.

"What! Oh, Max it's you. What happened? I thought you were sleeping."

Angie got up from the bed and walked over the Max.

"Sit on the bed and let me see what you did. What did you do?"

"I stepped on your shoes. I thought you had left. I wanted to thank you for bringing me home and cleaning my apartment."

"Oh, no problem, it's the least I could do. You did save me from Hailey. "

Angie looked at Max's foot and saw that it was ok, no bleeding or anything.

"You're fine. Well, since your up and around I guess I'll go. I just wanted to say that I really enjoyed seeing you again, and I would like to see you again soon."

Angie reached for her shoes but Max stopped her. Angie looked up at Max to see she was smiling.

"Why don't you stay, I'll fix you breakfast and we can talk, you know, get to know each other."

Angie smiled back at her, "I would really like that."

Max didn't know what made her ask her to stay; she didn't want to get involved with anybody. There was something about her though that just pulled at Max's heart. Something that just made Max want to be around her all the time. They left the room and headed toward the kitchen area. Angie sat at the table and Max went straight for the fridge.

"I hope crepes are ok."

"Oh yes, crepes are great."

They sat there for a moment in a comfortable silence. Then, Max turned to Angie and just looked at her. Angie could feel someone looking at her.

"Do I have something on my face?"

"What? Oh, no. I was just thinking." Max replied. She turned back to the stove and continued cooking.

"Well, what were you thinking about? I mean, you were looking at me, so I presume that you were thinking about me, right?"

"Well, yes actually, I was. I was just wondering why you requested me to cook your food today."

Angie looked down at her hands and replied, "I was very intrigued by you when I met you. I wanted to see if you cooked as good as you looked."

The last part of the sentence kind of trailed off.

"I'm sorry, what did you say?" asked Max

"I said: I wanted to see if you cooked as good as you looked. I know, dumb, but I never thought that I would actually sit down and talk to you and have to explain."

Max could see that Angie was embarrassed by her explanation so she didn't press. She was, however, flattered. She couldn't figure out why but she was intrigued and she would like to continue to get to know her, she wanted to continue to see her, on a regular basis. She figured why not take the chance.

"Um Angie, I was wondering if you were seeing anybody. Cause if you aren't then I would really like to see you, on a regular basis."

Angie was delighted, she really liked Max. "Oh Max, I would really love that."

Max smiled at her and turned back to finish breakfast. After breakfast was finished they had coffee and just talked. It was getting late but neither one of the girls wanted to stop talking, they were having fun getting to know each other better. Just as Max was going to suggest that Angie stay, there was a knock on the door.

"Hmm, I wonder who that could be at this hour."

Max walked over to the door, opened it, and standing in the door way was this tall, beautiful blonde. She walked in, turned towards Max, and dropped her coat. Underneath the blonde was wearing nothing but a garter belt, knee high black spiky boots, and a bra to match.

"Max baby, I've missed you. Since you didn't call back, I thought I would just stop by and surprise you."

Max wasn't even looking at her, she was looking at Angie. She saw hurt, then anger cross her beautiful face. She saw Angie bend over, pick up her shoes and her purse and look at her.

"Excuse me; I didn't know you were expecting anybody. I guess I'll go. Max, thank you for helping me tonight and I will have my insurance company get in touch with you."

Just as Angie was about to walk out the door, Max stepped in front of her to stop her from leaving.

"Angie wait, please don't leave. I didn't return her call for a reason. Please let me explain."

"Why Max, there is no need, obviously she is here to see you, so you guys can 'catch up'. Have fun. I'm just sorry I let you fool me!"

With that, Angie pushed past Max and ran out of the apartment.

Max turned around and looked at Kat. What Kat saw in her eyes scared her. She had never seen that look before. It looked like she was ready to murder.

"What the hell are you doing here? I thought I told you that I never wanted to see you again."

"Well," Kat cooed, "I thought that you had enough time to get over it. I was hoping to start over again."

"Get the fuck out! Do you know what you just did? You ruined a potentially, excellent relationship! Angie is a sweet caring woman and you fucked it up for me. Wow, I guess that's the only thing in life your good at, fucking things. NOW GET OUT!" Max yelled.

Max couldn't believe it; she fucked up her life again. Max had to call Angie to fix things. Even if she couldn't get one-hundred percent, she needed to at least explain. She picked up the phone and dialed.

***

Angie raced out of the apartment and out to her car. She couldn't believe how stupid she had been. She got into her car, crying the whole way. She had really liked Max; she thought that there was potential there. Worst of all, she thought that Max felt the same. How could she compete with that blonde? Angie was only 5'5, that blonde was 5'9 and all legs! That blonde had beautiful golden hair; Angie had auburn hair, and freckles to boot! There was no way Max was going to want her when she could have that blonde. By the time Angie got home, she had cried her self into exhaustion. She didn't even bother to check her messages before she collapsed into bed.

***

When Angie woke up the next and went straight to the bathroom. She felt awful and knew that a nice long hot shower would do the trick. As soon as she got into the shower and felt the hot steaming water run over her body, she thought about the events of the previous night. She still couldn't believe what had happened. She felt like a total idiot. She kept beating herself up over and over again. By the time she got out of the shower and got dressed, she felt a little better.

Thank god today is Sunday.

She thought as she went into the kitchen to fix a cup of tea. After she put the water on to boil she headed into the living room to turn on her TV to see what was on. Just as she was about to turn on her TV she noticed out of the corner of her eye that her answering machine was blinking. She walked over to it and pushed the play button. There was another message from her boss asking her to call him, there was a message from a telemarketer, and then there was another message from her mother.

These messages were usually long and winded. Her mother could talk the ears off of anybody. While her mother was going on about why she hadn't found somebody nice to settle down with, and why she wasn't giving her grandbabies, and all that other boloney, she walked into the kitchen to finish fixing her tea. While she was putting the honey into her tea, she heard her voice. She stopped cold; she couldn't believe that she called her. She walked over to the answering machine and was about to shut it off when Max said something that made her stop:

"Look Angie, I'm not calling to beg you to forgive me, or anything like that. I just wanted to call and explain. Please don't turn off the machine. Let me explain. The woman that came into my house tonight was Kat. She is my ex. We were together about 4 years ago. It was pretty serious and I was going to ask her to marry me when I caught her cheating. I told her I never wanted to see or talk to her again. She called me last night before I went to the club to let me know that she was in town. I didn't return her call and I didn't expect her to show up. I am really sorry that you were hurt. I told her to get out and that I never wanted to see her or talk to her again. I told her this right after you left. Like I said, I'm not asking you to forgive me or anything like that. I just wanted to explain. If you want to talk again my number is 555-438-"

The message was cut off! Angie couldn't believe it, the message was cut off! She tried everything she could but the message was just to long for the machine. She was devastated!! After Max explained everything she felt like such an idiot for running out like that. She rewound the machine and remembered that her boss wanted her to call.

While she reached for the phone she was thinking about how she could get in touch with her. She could go to the restaurant, she could go to the bar, or she could even go to Max's house. While she was trying to think what to do, she dialed her bosses' number. A second later the phone started ringing and then she heard her boss answer the phone.

"Hello?"

"Hi, this is Angie. What do you need boss?"

"Oh Angie" he said anxiously. "I have been trying to get a hold of you for a couple of days. You need to leave today for your next assignment. It's been pushed up. I have all your info right here."

Her boss proceeded to give her her flight info and all that. She hung up with her boss and got ready to leave.

Angie was just about to leave when she decided that she wanted to do something for Max. She wanted Max to know that she wasn't upset at her, if anything she was upset at herself. She picked up the phone and made a couple of phone calls.

While she was driving to the airport she was thinking about Max. She couldn't help but wonder how she was going to react. She didn't know if she would like them, but she hoped Max would. She pulled into a parking spot, unloaded her car, and headed to the terminal.

***

Max hadn't heard from Angie in three days and she figured that Angie didn't care about her explanation. Max hasn't been herself since that night. Usually when she is at work she is happy and joking around. She loves what she does and it makes her happy. But lately, she just isn't enjoying it. She can't stop thinking about how Angie looked when Kat walked in and dropped her coat. She looked like she had been stabbed in the back.

I miss her. I know that sounds crazy but I miss her. There was just something about her that makes me feel alive. I want to talk to her forever and just look at her. She has the most expressive face. I wonder if she is in the phone book, maybe I can look up her name and try to find her address. Would she let me in...?

Max was lost in her thoughts until she felt someone tap her on the shoulder. She turned around to see a man in a uniform standing behind her. She looked at him and saw that his uniform said Rita's Flowers. She couldn't understand why this man would be standing behind her. Maybe he had her mixed up with someone else.

"Excuse miss?" asked the gentlemen.

"Yes?" she replied.

"Are you Max Remington?"

"Yes, that's me. Can I help you?" she asked quizzically.

"Yes, I have a delivery for you, would you please follow me?"

With that he started walking out of the restaurant. Max followed him for lack of a better thing to do. If he had a delivery for her, why didn't he just bring it in to her? As soon as she walked out of the back door she knew why he didn't bring it into her. There must have been 12 dozen lilies starting her in the face. The man handed her a clipboard so she could sign the paper. He unloaded her vases and then pulled away. She just stood there, she didn't know what to do with 12 dozen lilies. She looked through all the vases to see if she could find a message. She finally found the message and looked to see who it was from. When she saw that it was from Angie, she just smiled.

Max,

I wanted to apologize for my behavior the other night.

I was rude and childish.

I should have let you explain when you wanted to.

I am sorry and I would really like to see you again.

You have my number call me when you get around to it.

Right now I'm in California. I'm staying at the Hilton in Hollywood,

room number 465. Call me if you would like. I would

love to hear from you. Hope you like the flowers.

They are my favorite and they always make me smile.

I hope they do the same for you.

Always,

Angie

Max was ecstatic when she read the note. She felt lighter then she had in days. She looked at her watch and smiled because it was quitting time. She rushed into the restaurant and clocked out. It was a good thing she brought her truck with her today, if she brought her bike there would be no way for her to get all these flowers home. She ran out to her truck and pulled it around to the back. She loaded all her flowers into the back and headed home. She was going to call Angie, and then she had a plan she wanted to put into action.

As soon as she reached her apartment and unloaded all her flowers, she called information and asked for the Hilton in Hollywood CA. The operator transferred her to the Hilton and Max asked her for room 465. The hotel desk clerk transferred her to Angie's room and the phone rang, and rang, and rang, and rang. Max thought that Angie would never pick up until she finally heard her voice.

"Hello?"

"Um, hi Angie, it's Max." she said tentatively.

"Oh Max! I was hoping you would call. I wasn't sure since it had been a few days." said Angie excitedly.

"Well, I just got the flowers today so I only just got your note with your info and stuff."

"Really, I sent them the day I left. I wonder why you only just got them."

"Well, that doesn't matter, I'm just glad I got them. Thank you so much, I love them. I accept your apology; I just hope you can accept mine."

"Oh Max," replied Angie, "You shouldn't have to apologize. I'm the one who acted like an idiot. You asked me to let you explain and I didn't let you. Can you forgive me?"

"Yes of course. Angie, I don't know what it is about you, but you make me feel so light and happy."

There was a long pause and Max wasn't sure what happened. Maybe she said the wrong thing.

"Angie, are you still there? I'm sorry; did I say the wrong thing?"

There was another pause and then, "No Max, it just took me by surprise. You see, I feel the same way about you. I really like being around you and I would love to get to know you better."

Max smiled and said, "Good, then when you get home, I'll make you a great dinner and we can talk, and get to know each other."

"Oh Max!" exclaimed Angie, "That sounds wonderful. Do you want to come to my house, or me come to yours?"

"Well, if I come to yours, then you won't have to worry about leaving after you just get home. When will you be home?" asked Max.

"Well, actually, I will be home tomorrow night, about 7:00."

"Great, then I look forward to seeing you tomorrow night!"

They hung up and Max got working on her plan.

***

As soon as Angie got off the plane she couldn't move fast enough. She wanted to get home to clean up and take a shower before Max got to her house. She grabbed her luggage and got out of her car as fast as she could. She threw her luggage into the back and jumped in. She raced home as fast as she could. The whole way home Angie couldn't help but think about what would happen tonight.

I wonder what Max is going to make for dinner. What will we talk about? Will I ask her to stay with me tonight? I know that I want her to stay with me, but will she think that I'm moving to fast...?

Her thoughts took her all the way home. As soon as she pulled into the garage she jumped out of her car, took her luggage out, and raced up to her apartment. When she stepped off the elevator and started walking towards her apartment, she could smell something sweet. It smelled like her favorite thing in the whole world, lilies.

Well, someone's lucky. Those flowers smell so good!

But something funny was happening, the smell started to get stronger as she got closer to her door. By the time she got to her door, the smell was so strong that she was wondering what the hell was going on. She put her luggage down, took her keys out of her purse, and opened the door. The sight that she saw took her breath away. Her whole apartment was full of flowers. There were lilies, orchids, forget me knots, and every other kind of flower you could think of. But mostly there were lilies, her favorite, and orchids, her second favorite. She walked through the apartment touching and smelling all the flowers, there were even flowers in her room. There were rose petals all over the floor and the bed and a trail leading into the bathroom. When she got into the bathroom there were candles all over the place, petals on the floor, and some in the tub. She had never seen anything so lovely. On the counter there was a piece of paper.
