Lovers come together,
offering smiles and eager eyes.
Stories exchanged.
Do they portend the future,
or recall their sorrowful pasts?

Linked by desire, with absolute clarity,
a cruel mirror held aloft,
examining their souls.
Passions and fears revealed,
within, and to the other.

Dissimilar lives on meandering paths,
a confluence of convenience
discerning needs.
They embark on a journey
that will end in heartache.

Souls with a purpose,
with pliable intimacy,
so often unattainable.
Yet in this moment,
their future is assured.

Another flame flickering to life,
a beacon for these lonely souls,
leading them to shore.
Presently, the fire will smolder.
This, their inevitable destiny.

~~

The only piece posted by this poet, weaving images of lives connecting with a future while others roll astray and still others that connect find they have no future.

Great pairing

I loved the phrase "pliable intimacy".
