deeper, dig into the wall
succumb to innate will to live
cling as you are, because you are
and sing your waiting song

two hundred and seventy days
give or take a few
if not taken sooner than
emerge, emit a wail or two

soft black eyes that should have seen
but light was suctioned away
that velvet touch, a mother’s hand
two lives that father wished away
