FALLING LEAVES

As I watch the leaves
Fall from the tree,
I wonder if this is something
That I care to see.

For it is their life
That they have gave,
For the life of the tree
Is what they now save.

So it seems to me
That they do die,
And with that thought
Sorrow finds my eye.

But then I think
Of what they’ve done,
Shunning their life
For another begun.

And then I smile
With thoughts of spring,
For to the tree
New leaves it shall bring.

And then once again
Their beauty I shall see,
Yes, once again watching
The leaves fall from the tree…BWL
