I think the female is a little too hostile. Her mother may have been mistreated, but should have realized that not all men are bad. Also, the human urge to procreate should cause her to consider that without a man, she will die. Of course who knows how humanity looks at this issue this many years in the future.

It would also be nice to add some background about the ship or people who may have shot him down. Why would they do that, is there a war going on, were they having a bad day???

It has caught my attention and I like it .Please keep on writing!
