Quite a promising start to what I hope will be a long story! I like that it's written from Kitten's standpoint (and the fact she's adamant about who and what she is and isn't). I can also see how this story could branch into the tech's views on species modifications and her future owner as well.
The bare bones of my "comment" is? are?--that in "Jersey Girl"--my favorite version by Tom Waits--
the man is in love with a beautiful, elegant, gentle, rich butter fat, Jersey cow--it's about this--
when he says "cross the river to the Jersey side"... it's like crossing something like race, sex barrior that's not allowed, but he loves her--
"don't you know when my dreams come true, when I'm walking down the street with you ... my little angel gives me everything..."
It's like a forbidden love--love of a Jersey cow, the river between them and other parts of England--
"And I call your name--"
and the sun, no moon of someone held between her horns
This is like a associative test--
endless
and hide her away from the rest of the world."
She's a sacred goddess, and you fools don't recognize her.
