Ruthie definitely had a thing against artichokes. She had a lot of quirks and pet peeves, but her loathing of artichokes ranked pretty close to the top.
During the photo-shoot she badly disrespected and abused several artichokes. Her dumbfounded companions stood by as she mistreated the unlucky vegetables, thinking to themselves: this is totally weird.
However, the photographers loved having something bizarre and different to load into their memory cards. Ruthie's very weirdness, not with her appearance but instead with her behavior, explained a portion of her growing popularity among artistic photographers.
Not knowing how far Ruthie was planning to go with her abuse of artichokes, Vicky and Penelope quietly moved out of range from the cameras.
