The most controversial moment of the summer-long photo-shoot came at the very end, just before the group returned to Davenport. At the last moment Chairman Wilson called Dan and asked if the group could perform a final photo-shoot for about 20 photographers that had signed up too late for the regular schedule, but who still hoped to participate in the contest. Only one of the photographer was really important enough to accommodate, but the others were in the right place at the right time. Wilson felt he had to add the one photographer to the contest, and the others gave him cover to avoid accusations he had gone out of his way to unfairly add just one person. So, there would be a final round of pictures in Ruthie's hometown of Salinas.
Ruthie's hometown did not have that much to boast about, but it did have one unique item, the world's largest statue of an artichoke.
