I hang up after hearing him say
the wife has just called me to dinner
but Ill give you a call tomorrow
which means tomorrow of next month

I try keeping six feet between me and the neighbor
 but the wind is blowing
 and what should we do
he says he sneezed the other day
and now the doctor wants to do a complete brain scan
but the neighbor doesn't see the point
he says they'll just see a great void
 where his brain should be

the other neighbor has put out all his non essential goods by the curb
 even food
he says food for him has become non essential
 because his stomach
 just like his life
 has become one great void
he had his stomach tied last year

the mailman hands me the mail
after he says what virus I'm not worried
and after I sanitize my hands and contemplate
the superfluousness of mail and man
I open the credit card bill to see
they've enclosed a signed blank check
so I can pay this months rent
I tear up at the on coming doom
by writing void across the check
but this wont lift my today's mood
I still have to pay the rent tomorrow

we are on lock down here
don't even think about being seen within six feet of someone
I take a chance and go out
then see the red lights in the distance
the exempt cops wave me by
 there's nothing to see here
they see only the void in my passenger seat
