Click hereThe din of the traffic is startling
the screeching of tires and yells
abound along the avenues...
before the day turns into night
and the people tire and yawn
ready to head on home again.
Soon shadows fall and night rolls
in as the moon appears in the sky...
it gets much darker within the city.
So many head home, some go out
to their midnight to eight jobs, those
are the ones on the assembly lines.
Soon the clocks strike midnight
like the one in the city square and
the street urchins rise to the neon.
The cops deal with something every
few minutes as most people are off
to dreamland there...and the city sleeps.
Morning comes once again and
the neon has been put out as the
sun rises in the sweet summer sky.
So many wake to sounds of the city
in their high rise apartments that
climb into the heavens up above.
Another day of their 9 to 5 job is
facing them before the day passes
and night creeps silently in again.
Soon they're dinner is waiting at home
before it's time to head to bed again
to dream alone...and the city sleeps.
And the city sleeps.
