Some prayers never leave the lips
Others fail towards the sky
Still there are those answered
And no one quite knows why

So I'm careful with my thoughts
Never phrased in wayward ways
That will cause me pleasure
At the expense of others pain

Well it's what I tell myself
Eyes turned hopeful and high
Surely it wasn't me
That issued that painful cry

I won't dance upon a tabletop
I've forgotten my dancing shoes
And the smirk is almost permanent
Getting uglier is my due

Where others have made promises
I'm guilty of it too
It's best to forget pilfered gifts
Always too good to be true

My moods have total control of me
Trust me, I've looked them in the eyes
Where do you think I got the smirk
And I won't deny my lies

With winter now upon us
Past days of wonder brought me here
Looking back to what was possible
Left with wishes, hopes and fears

So I look outside my window
Then inside where I see clear
Daring not to drag back the curtain
I know what dwells inside me here

Like the trees aphyllous
What's left is stark and bare

Like snow fallen innocently from the skies, covering yesterday's sins, it will melt someday and expose what's lies beneath.

Loved the images you used.
