Night falls quickly, as does the snow.
How can something so dazzlingly bright so effectively increase the blackness of this night?
Soft muffling flakes cover the light of the stars, and clouds (that must be dark if one could see them through this dark whiteness of snow) diffuse and drown the light cast by the old and setting moon.
There had been light from the distant city -- I'm sure I had seen it, but falling snow blackens city lights.
I stumble across some tracks and follow them for a distance, blindly thankful that someone else has carved a path to keep the cold out of my boots, until I realize the tracks I follow are my own.
Sitting at last, I rest and turn my face to the sky. Cold damp black flakes fall on my cheeks, as I wonder what secrets this night must hold.
