I completed the wall
Save for arrow slits.
I thought the narrow lines
Would hold back
The misty spray I feel
When I see you.

I spent too much
Of my precious time
Wondering.
He teases me
Critical of my preoccupation
He appraises my thoughts,
Unknowing the whole truth
I refuse to speak.

I awoke this morning
Determined in my actions.
I must mud the cracks
Seal the leaks
Poke fingers in my ears
Singing childlike songs.

I see at last that you are not a
Fog rolling over me, but a
Sea rising on its tidal journey
Able to drown me
In love’s conflicted state.
