Over polished, barren floors
Round sneaky, hidden corners
In the unaccusing dark
I will put you in my ‘secret’ room
And stir you up
Some fecund dreams
And maybe even
Take a snapshot of your
Smiling sleep
Then wake you up
to Saturday
And sun-warm sheets and
Morning high
Pollen-heavy breath
and dewy eyes
And breakfast songs of all the birds,
clamoring at once
And skies stretching far
In ancient blue disdain
I will take you
With me
Put you in a bell-jar

Or maybe I will cast a spell
To charm you (sweetly)
From your sailor’s watch
And sweep you, mermaid-style
Scaled tail a-flicker
On ocean paths
Through undersea canyons
In the unaccusing deep
I will keep you safe
To guard my richest landscape
And drive out the hollow tears,
This shallow ancient pain
