I'd have side swiped the right door of
every car
had I known it would trap the lookers on
inside a little longer.
Let them linger,
limp out into summer,
sitting under shade thrown toward the sidewalk
by trees too tame for me to wanna color.
I'd carve my own name
into bark, growl and grit my teeth at the thought
of another hand clipping my branch.
I swear to god
I'll climb so high
they won't ever see the slight of hand.
