Going to Oregon
Crater Lake and Haystack
are waiting for me.

Roll on Columbia!
May I step in twice
to watch my river flow?

The scent of salt
the taste of sunset mist
and the ocean's pounding roar

Cannon on the beach
shaking the shoreline sands
as our sensuous ship sets sail.

Traveling colors
moving with the wind
on foggy morning mountain roads

Painted Hills red and gold
ghosts of sabertooths
chasing supersonic antelope

sunstones and obsidian
red wines and porcupines
empty cabins lying on lava beds.

Laughing in the desert
chomping M&Ms for breakfast
forgetting questions and answers

hungry as the wolf
devouring the beauty of freedom
with no particular place to go.
