Up early
as is my design
she asks how I’m feeling
I’m feeling fine,
She asks what I’m thinking
what I want to do
make some coffee
perhaps two,

So I pump some water
grind up some beans
the porcelain mugs
seem pretty clean,
Watch the molecules
get all excited
return to bed
she seems delighted,

Drinks her coffee
wearing a sheet
sooner or later
might turn up the heat,
Watch the sun
rise in the sky
but now we have time
to wonder why,

Out in this corner
of deep dark space
the Earth is here
the human race,
Running around
with no clear design
she asks how I’m feeling
I’m feeling fine,

Finish our coffee
the room still dark
often life
is just a lark,
Might all be over
might happen soon
the sun, the Earth
the Cheshire Cat moon,
