Out of the ashes and raises its head
A beast with no soul and eyes burning lead
The story I tell is not all lies
For it feeds and lives and never dies
The cold paved streets and dying city lights
This creature stalks with no end in site
It hungers for an item that is without substance
An addiction of some sort not given a chance
Seen by all, but not clear to our eyes
Unfit to fear, and never cries
Its tears of the world’s deepest kind
Not of the earth or the human salt we find
Powerless to only one thing in time
To be fought forever by the human heart and mind
