There is a cave of solid stone
Guarded by a dragon alone,
Hiding, protecting personal treasure
Prized and valued beyond all measure.

A girl in a cave, lonely and trembling
Arms 'round herself, chin up challenging
Deep eyes dark, open wide, filled with tears
Crouched with head tilted, tensed ready against fears.

How regal and strong, unmoving, the dragon.
One girl, one dragon: together a legion.

A fierce glare, spout of flame a warning conveys.
Within me both have each found their place.
Secretly frightened, but honest and brave
While planned impenetrable is this cave.

Heart kept safe by force of will.
Precious enough over which to kill
This hoarded fate, an obsession of hers.
The cold, eerie tension develops, hovers.

In this closed-off cave, black enveloping
the thumping, throbbing of a treasure living,
Open space suffocates the vigilant guard:
The dragon, the girl, with the beautiful heart.
