This may not make sense to all who read it, but it will make sense to him.
Dedicated to Joey: Editor, vintage anime enthusiast, helluva guy and a good friend.
Like graphic design, Writing is my passion.
Never thought I’d be good in any kind of fashion.
Until, one day, a man decided to ration,
some of his time to help a novice improve and gain some traction
Even though I write smut, it’s a Guilty Pleasure of mine,
Ten am or midnight he always takes the time,
To look over my works and suggest the sublime.
A few changes here and there and he started me on my incline.
Cultivated a better me to show the world my Megamind.
He turned my scripts from Bee movies, to blockbuster hits.
His comments were the first to make me think “I'm the shit.”
And all my shitty feelings, at his words, are Flushed away,
The confidence he instilled in me is here to stay.
Learning the Ropes from someone better than you is often intimidating,
But over the course of several months in his Dm’s, deliberating
on plot points and theme, draft after draft,
the things I considered Forbidden Fruits are now within my grasp.
From novice to master, he got me on The Road.
To El Dorado, Chicken Running toward my goal.
Conquistador life, now I’m gunnin’ for the gold.
But without his help I would have never been so bold.
I hope I can muster even half the skill he showed
In creating the best robot maid ever, Marigold
Outside of writing, the story’s much the same.
Be teaching anime with Chris or playing the space game.
Be sailors or Who or Utena beating up guys,
I would describe those long calls as a Thrupple in Paradise.
I started from the bottom, not expecting to leave he ground
And now I’m Over the Hedge, upward bound
Nothing is infinite and so I state hereafter
No matter when it ends, be it a few years or my next chapter
I'll be grateful to that man as if he were Shrek, Forever After.
Dreams are hard to chase no matter how good the perks,
Mean comments and self-doubt can make your dream hurt.
But if you find yourself a Joe and have a little teamwork,
You can be like me and produce your DreamWorks.
A great 'Thank you' to the one behind the props.
