I awaken again from the death that is sleep
To see the good life through which I creep
Is but a shadow, an illusion I live
To toy and play, but never to give

The memory of women whose bodies I've known
Remind me again of the feeling not shown
So I will leave you now to live and dream
Of a time we touched while crossing life's stream

But what is this of which poets rave
Some say it's love they wish to save
The gist of their love is make and remake
Yet to me it's more like they take and retake

So I will not tell you of love that is fair
Or bore you to death with talk of your hair
And I will not simper and tell lies
About the soft love I find in your eyes

I will only be there a moment of your time
To take from your life the fruit I call wine
Then I will leave you again to live and to think
Of that time we touched and stopped to drink

The Shadow Man
