we don't own words. they own us; you may know
when all the ink fades, feelings are the things
we own; but still we can tell, blow by blow,
the stories of our feelings, as they bring
a certainty to passion and to thought
that we might share within a fantasy
and, as I muse, I do know that I'm caught;
but cannot find a way to be as free
as I am in your arms and your control,
because you liberate and discipline
and, in these dreams, you have me heart and soul
from endings, working back, as we begin
to understand each other: it's absurd
that we are owned by every written word.
