Go.
The word is dropped like a stone into the dull omnipresent ache spreading through my heart.
Your rigid finger pointing away.
Beckoning me to depart.
Disbelief.
Terror.
An agonizing free fall into the new reality of life without you.
Praying that I hit the bottom hard enough to never wake up.
With trembling metaphysical fingers I unbuckle the invisible collar that you'd placed around my neck in the earliest days of our conversations.
In my minds eye it dissipates on my palm.
A thin wisp of hope forever gone to the universe.
This is how I honor you.
I honor you with obedience.
I honor you with respect.
I honor you by obeying your final command.
Pleasing you was all my wary heart ever wanted to do.
I give you this final gift.
I have loved you.
I will always love you.
Heavy blow.
Footsteps slow.
I go.

Wow!

Well done.

The painful obedience is palpable.
