I wanted to sit but you told me I could not stand.
I longed for silence but you said I had no voice.
I desperately needed to lie down and rest but you told me to close my eyes.

For a blessed moment of peace in a riot wide world of anguish, what I would not give?

My thoughts
My creativity
My voice
My stance
My knowledge
My humanity

Time will witness my hand as friend or foe.
It will define the righteous and good by the harmony of the children and the love they inherit.

To be still in a moment of chaos
To grieve in a moment of despair
To write these words where tears would only run the ink

I spoke and my tongue was weary of the repetitiveness.
My soul tired of the truth.
My feet, sore and my back ached
My heart—obsidian in a sea of gold
I grew in silent rage and burst forth…
                    …in my mind, a giant
…in reality, a shadow that persists
You told me to shut up and cease—
I stood and exist.
