Not the airport
not the dock
just looking for
my lost sock,
The laundromat
down the street
turning up
the dryer heat,

While I watch you
fold your clothes
voyeuristic
I suppose,
Each piece handled
with exactitude
I wonder if
you’re in the mood,

A cup of coffee
mug of tea
or spend the afternoon
with me,
I ask politely
you agree
sure, you say
let’s go see,

With clean clothes
in backpacks
we review
the salient facts,
Your place, my place
somewhere new
I ask you want
you’d like to do,

We agree
and off we go
let the afternoon
flow,
Bottle of wine
jazz CD
a tattoo you say
I should see,

Unzip this
unbutton that
from your bed
remove the cat,
We contemplate
future pleasure
enjoying each
hidden treasure,

Then the last glass
of wine, we drink
you tell me what
it is you think,
Cleans clothes and
a well cleaned clock
but I never found
that lost sock,
